Appointments

When you need to see the doctor you will be offered the next available appointment with the doctor of your choice, or the next routine appointment with any doctor.

If you feel that your medical problem is urgent and needs to be dealt with the same day, please inform the receptionist who will arrange an urgent appointment. Only using this service for urgent problems will ensure that it runs efficiently and does not become overloaded.

We also provide training to nurse practitioners and doctors. They are fully qualified medical professionals and are getting more experience of working in General Practice. You might be offered appointments with them in addition to regular doctors and nurses. 

Some of these appointments are directly observed by trainers or videoed to help with the training. Your consent will always be sought in such a case, any intimate physical examinations are never recorded and you can decline if you do not wish the consultation to be recorded at all.

We offer all our patients the option of booking / cancelling appointments online. This is a very easy to use and can be accessed even when the surgery is closed, giving you the option to book / cancel appointments when it suits you.

Emergencies During Surgery Hours

The duty doctor will deal with any urgent problems during an ordinary working day. The doctor will either give advice over the telephone, or arrange to see you at an appropriate place as indicated by the nature of the problem, usually the surgery. At certain times our practice nurses may speak to you first to further assess the problem you have and decide whether referral to hospital, an urgent appointment same day or a routine appointment is indicated.

Home Visits

The vast majority of problems are most appropriately dealt with at the Health Centre, where we have the necessary equipment and support staff. Travelling to the surgery will not cause harm in most cases. Children with high temperatures are not made any worse by visiting the surgery, even on cold or wet days. Your doctor will visit you at home if you are bed-bound, seriously ill with certain conditions, or for some emergencies.

Should you feel that you require a home visit please telephone before 10.00am so that we can plan visits efficiently. Requests for visits received after 10.00am will be dealt with by the duty doctor that day.

Be prepared to give our receptionist the name and date of birth of the patient, full address and telephone number, and a brief indication of the nature and urgency of the problems which will help the doctors to deal with urgent visits promptly
